Throbbing-gristle.com has announced that on November 24th, 2010, Peter Christopherson passed away “peacefully in his sleep” at his home in Bankok. Peter was part of pioneering industrial band Throbbing Gristle, who emerged in 1975. When that group initially broke up in 1981, he briefly joined bandmate Genesis P-Orridge in Psychic TV before forming the highly prolific Coil. Among other things, Peter was also well known as a video director, working with artists ranging from Front 242 to Hanson. Most recently, he was part of the re-united Throbbing Gristle. The group was forced to rebrand themselves as “X-TG” for a series of concerts without Genesis, who mid tour said he was returning home to NY (not quitting the band.) Several recordings X-TG here made available on their website. Peter also had an album in the works for his solo project The Threshold HouseBoys Choir.
Mark Moore (S’Express) has made available ‘Last Mission Helsinki,’ a track he was working on with the late Ian B Loveday aka EON. Profiled in Chaos Control back in 1993, EON was behind such techno / rave classics as “Spice” and “Basket Case.” Moore posted the following to members of his facebook group.:
“Here is the track that I was working on with Ian B just before he passed away. For a long time I wasn’t able to go back and finish it but here it is now. It’s the last track Eon recorded and I figured it would be good to put it up for all to download. Please feel free to pass it around, I’m sure Ian would be happy to give it out to everyone. (Thanks to Leila Arab and Paul Freegard for post-production tweaks)”
Mortiis has made a new album, âPerfectly Defect,â available as a free download. While the still in-progress âThe Great Deceiverâ is the âtrueâ follow-up to 2004âs âThe Grudge,â this release serves as a bridge between the two.
âWhen we were writing and working on âThe Great Deceiverâ, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music,â Mortiis explained in a press release. âSome of it was far too varied and experimental to be included in such an angry, dark album as âThe Great Deceiverâ so we created a brand new album that is the introductory element to the more intricate world of âThe Great Deceiver.ââ
Front Line Assembly have canceled their planned U.S. tour, which was to have started on October 31.
“We have had too many problems putting the tour together, and the bottom line is if we can’t put on a good show for you the fans, then it’s just not worth it. We apologise to all of you,” said founding member Bill Leeb in a press release.
The group is looking to instead hit the road in 2011. For more information on Front Line Assembly and their recent “Improvised. Electronic. Device.” album, be sure to check out our interview with Leeb.
Bjorkâs âThe Comet Songâ is now available on iTunes, with all proceeds going to UNICEF to aid flood victims in Pakistan. The song is from the new Moomin movie, âThe Moomins and the Comet Chase.â
If youâre in the US, you might be asking yourself – what is a Moomin? They are a family of âtrollsâ who some people say look like hippos, and the central characters in a series of books and comic strips by Finish author / illustrator Tove Jansson. While they are collectively referred to as âMoomins,â the main character is named Moomin, with his father referred to as Moominpappa and his mother Moominmama. The books are available in this country, but the characters have never been as well known as they are in places like Europe and Japan.
âThe Moomins and the Comet Chaseâ is based on the book âComet in Moominlandâ and is compiled from episodes of the 1977â1982 Polish stop-motion Moomins TV series. This material was restored, re-voiced, and converted to 3D. The film was released on August 6 in Finland, but so far I have not read anything about it coming to the US. There IS an English language version, though, with Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd (Eric from âTrue Bloodâ) voicing Moomin.
