Real Life catalog now available as mp3 downloads

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Real Life (“Send Me An Angel”) have just set up an online mp3 store, where the bulk of their back catalog can be purchased at $.99 track. On the official Real Life site (reallifemusic.net) frontman David Sterry wrote:

Call me old fashioned, but it seems like yesterday when my German record company handed me my first CD (Send Me an Angel). I thought no one would give up vinyl for this new format, but it did make a good frisbee. I was wrong!! Then came the Internet that put us in direct touch with people who wanted more music from us. These days we can record on our computers without spending $3000 a day in a studio.

Now below you see our moveable Jukebox/Music Shop. We’ve uploaded Heartland, Flame. Lifetime, Happy/Happier, Imperfection, Re mixes and Demo’s. there are over 70 tracks. You can listen to all of it (suggest with a bottle of Champagne in a hot bath) and if you like it you can buy most of it if you want (some things we don’t have rights to). And if you buy stuff, something very very strange happens……. We actually get paid.

We will also upload all our videos when we can find them..

If you want you can copy this to your Myspace site or any webpage by clicking the share button and pasting the code. Lots of people put years of their lives ito the following songs. Hope you find something you like…

The Return of Thomas Dolby!

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Thomas Dolby

Though best known for “She Blinded Me With Science,” Thomas Dolby is NOT a ‘one hit wonder’ - he had many other successful singles (”Windpower”, “Hyperactive”.) It’s just that “She Blinded Me With Science” had a certain novelty value that made it the song people most still remember 20+ years later. But those who followed Dolby know that he consistently put out high quality and diverse material … from the haunting “Mulu The Rain Forrest” to the energetic and jazzy “Keys To Her Ferrari.” And he was responsible for one of the few redeeming qualities of the “Howard The Duck” movie (the music performed by the fictional rock band Cherry Bomb). But in the mid-90’s, shortly after we interviewed him, Dolby seemed to disappear from the music scene. Where did he go? Dolby founded a company called Beatnik (formerly Headspace) to create musical tools & technologies for such applications as the world wide web and cell phones. He has since stepped down as CEO (but remains on the board) in order to pursue other projects, including a return to performing his own music live!!! Dolby is about to embark on the “Sole Inhabitant Tour 2006″ - check out his site for the dates!

NOTE: Since this article was posted, numerous media outlets have been reporting about how Britney Spears’ husband, Kevin Federline (aka K-Fed), sampled “She Blinded Me With Science” without permission. For the full story, check out Thomas’ blog at http://blog.thomasdolby.com/ (there lots of other interesting info there too!!)

Bands You Might Not Realize Still Exist: Real Life

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

This is a new feature focusing on bands who, as the titles says, you might not realize still exist. Sometimes we may cover bands who we feel should have given it up years ago, but generally we will feature groups who continue to make great music despite lacking the support of the mainstream music industry. Generally, these are bands who rose to fame on major labels but have since moved to indies (or started their own labels).

Real LifeTo kick things of, we are spotlighting Real Life, best known for their early 80’s synth pop hit “Send Me An Angel” (they also had success, particularly in the clubs, with such tracks as “Catch Me I’m Falling” and “God Tonight.”) Severe major record label woes prompted them to take the indie route with their past 2 albums, “HAPPY” (1997) and “IMPERFECTION” (2004). Musically, these albums combine the strong pop sensibility of classic Real Life with elements of modern electronic dance music.

We interviewed Real Life frontman David Sterry back when the group toured the US in support of “Happy” - click here to read it. We’ll be interviewing him again before too long, so feel free to email us question suggestions. For more info, but sure to visit the official Real Life website.
