In terms of electronic music, most people see Germany as the place where it all started. Do you agree?

En Esch: "It's so twisted, when electronic music first started there were a lot of Germans working with machines, with early tone generators before other people started. There's a lot of German bands that actually created a kind of electronic sound, including Can, Kraftwerk, D.A.F., there was a strong new wave movement. Can actually was a hippie band who started to cross over and move themselves in a new direction. There's even a lot of British punk rockers who mention Can as an influence for their music. It's pretty unbelievable. But what we have now is a new German techno scene that came along later. They don't do anything new and don't have anything to do with the original foundation of electronic music in the 70's."
