New LADYTRON interview posted
Friday, April 28th, 2006
A few weeks back we did another interview with Daniel Hunt of Ladytron (who we originally featured in 2002.) The band returned late last year with their 3rd album, “Witching Hour,” and recently released a new EP/DVD, “Extended Play.” Ladytron are currently out on a North American tour, which will be followed by live dates in Argentina and Europe. In addition, “Witching Hour” has just come out on vinyl. A full transcription of the interview has now been posted – click on the link below to read it.

On her debut full-length CD, “…and the moon was hungry…,” Morgan manages to flawlessly bring together the classical training she’s had since childhood and her love for darkwave music. What makes it work so well is that she obviously has a deep understanding and heartfelt appreciation of both genres. This isn’t like when a singer/songwriter just adds electronic beats to give their music an edge, or when a synth band experiments with orchestral samples. Together with the production team Wizardz of Oz, Morgan has truly managed to fuse styles in such a way that sounds natural and extremely powerful. In an email interview, Morgan told us a bit about the CD, her work on a “Harry Potter” trailer, and more!
A few years ago Chaos Control featured a really great New Jersey-based band called double-breasted (
Before the web as we know it was in wide use, Chaos Control Digizine was published in Macintosh HYPERCARD format. It was cheap (actually free until the color version came out) and provided a lot of possibilities for interactivity and multimedia. These issues were posted on various online and BBS services, as well as distributed on disk (floppy!) Looking at these Hypercard issues again, they stand up pretty well (despite an overuse of Kai’s Powertools in the color editions!). To provide a peek at the origins of Chaos Control Digizine, we’ve posted issues #2 and #8 for downloading. Of course you’ll need a Macintosh to view them, as well as the Hypercard player (follow the link below if you need it.) Unfortunately, Hypercard was never updated for OSX, so it will launch classic mode. Please ignore any weirdness, such as text occasionally getting cut off due to font issues , as these ARE over a decade old!
Gary Numan has really been hit and miss over the years. He’s never put out a completely BAD album, but when not in top form can be a bit on the bland side. Fortunately, this new release ranks up there as one of his best since the early 80’s. “Jagged” is a very dark and aggressive album, but the production keeps the thrashing guitars and industrial noise restrained enough for Numan’s distinctive voice can really shine. The occasional generic sounding guitar riff brings things down a bit, but overall the disc has some great sweeping choruses and strong melodic hooks. “Jagged” is a very solid release that should satisfy long-time fans and appeal to anyone who likes dark electronic/rock hybrids. Just don’t expect the next “Cars,” as Numan is definitely NOT on the retro bandwagon.
